Many of our mangrove propagules arrive packed tightly together, which can restrict root growth as they develop. During this activity, volunteers will carefully remove propagules from crowded containers and transplant them into individual or more spacious pots with fresh potting media. This allows the roots to expand, improves overall plant health, and prepares the mangroves for future shoreline restoration projects.

No experience is necessary. We’ll provide all the materials and demonstrate the proper technique. Every propagule you repot brings us one step closer to restoring resilient shorelines and creating valuable habitat for fish, birds, and other coastal wildlife.

Volunteer Tasks

• Carefully remove propagules from overcrowded trays or pots.
• Inspect for healthy roots and discard any unhealthy material.
• Replant each propagule into a larger individual container with fresh soil.
• Water newly transplanted propagules.
• Organize and label trays for continued nursery care.
